PETG is a modified polyester where glycol is added to eliminate crystallinity, resulting in a clear, amorphous sheet with excellent toughness, better chemical resistance than acrylic, and good impact strength. It is easy to thermoform and bond. Typical applications include medical blister packs, cosmetic packaging, retail displays, graphic overlays, and water bottles. Modification expands PETG’s use: flame-retardant PETG (U V-2 or V-0) is used for electrical insulation and signage. Anti-static PETG grades are available for electronics packaging and cleanroom applications. PETG can be coextruded with weather-resistant cap layers for outdoor signs. Food-contact PETG is FDA compliant and used for food containers and point-of-purchase displays. PETG is a popular 3D printing filament due to its balance of clarity, strength, and low odor. UV-stabilized PETG (with additive package) is used for outdoor signage and protective covers, though long-term UV resistance is less than acrylic. PETG also serves as a shrink sleeve material for labels. It is recyclable as #1 plastic in many streams.
